Why did we cook this up?
The challenges and complexities of mothering dominated many of our van-to-van cell phone conversations. We (okay, mostly Melinda) would worry that we were using the wrong mothering recipe. Then we would listen to other mothers. Many grew up without a healthy mom role model to guide them in their own mothering. Even those who did, found that their children’s personalities, life circumstances and current culture were different than the ones their moms had confronted. As a result, copying mom’s techniques and strategies didn’t always produce similar results. Regardless of our family recipe, all of us are truly “Mothering from Scratch.”
Our blog originated from these conversations and observations. With more than 33 years combined experience in the mothering mix, we felt we might have something valuable, or at the very least amusing, to contribute to the pot.
